Issue Position: Keeping Aerospace Jobs Here in the South Bay - LA Air Force Base

Issue Position

Today, California space enterprise totals $93 billion, contributing to 450,000 jobs in our state, with many of them centered on our Los Angeles Air Force Base and Space and Missile Systems Center here in the South Bay. All together, our state's aerospace industry represents 46% of the U.S. space market, and 22% of the global space market.

As a Councilwoman, Janice Hahn understands the importance of the Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB) in El Segundo, which is why in 2004 she fought to allocate $100,000 from the City of Los Angeles to fund the Los Angeles Air Force Base Regional Alliance in retaining the Los Angeles Air Force Base. This base is the center of the region's aerospace industry and is the home to many of the Air Force's "rocket scientists." The Los Angeles Air Force Base and its Space and Missile Systems account for tens of thousands of jobs in the region, and when Janice goes to Congress, she will continue to fight to do everything that she can to keep the base in El Segundo.
